News and Announcements

Here's an important list of many of the organizations we work closely with to reduce the impact of poverty, and to eliminate Hunger and Homelessness in Guilford County. They truly need us now more than ever. Each of these ministry partners has specific challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in greater need for money and food donations, as well as some specific volunteer opportunities. Please go to their websites by clicking on the links below to see how you can help, as you are able. Thanks!

The following items continue to be important: pastas in cans that kids can make, mac and cheese, canned vegetables, spaghetti sauce in cans and pasta, and peanut butter.  These are still being collected at church and picked up.

Donations have fallen off after the initial rush of 2 months ago.  The every month pick up of the green bags(instead of alternate months) has helped.
But, of the 20 or so calls every day needing to be added to the list for food, about 5 are from those who previously were donors.   People have no idea the depths of the need around us and that come July when some of the programs ran out,  the need you escalate.  Also, that we would be shocked at how people of all incomes are being impacted.
On the bright side, people have dropped off their stimulus checks and even food bought with their additional SNAP benefits.  "People want to help."

All activities are cancelled at First Lutheran. Please join us first and third Sundays.  Have your bread and wine/juice ready!  The last services posted as audio only on the Worship page were from Sunday, March 1.  Until worship service are held again at the church, the services will be live on Facebook and posted below (last 4 weeks) shortly after airing.  All videos (from June 14, 2020 until present) can be found on our YouTube channel here.

Check out our semi-monthly magazine called "First Glance".  It has articles and other information that is not as time-sensitive as the information in the E-News (sent via email weekly), but still important to our community.  This magazine will also be sent by email.  The deadline for submitting information for First Glance is the 10th and 25th of each month.  Those with email who would like a hard copy can pick up a copy at the church or pay $12 for a mailed subscription.  Contact Barbara Sasser at 292-9125 or to order a subscription.  We will mail copies to all homebound members without email free of charge.  At the bottom of this page you can find links to the latest 6 issues of First Glance.

The Weekly E-News is published digitally each Thursday and is sent via Constant Contact to our members.  If you are not currently receiving a copy and would like to, email to be added to our mailing list.
